A spiral fracture, or torsion fracture which it is also known as, is a type of fracture on a bone that is caused by a twisting force.
It is very different to other fractures in sports which are usually caused by direct impact. This fracture is often caused by a type of force called 'Torque' applied past the point of exertion that the bone is used to.
Often a spiral fracture does not break 'cleanly'. Meaning that the bone often splinters and makes for a hard task of healing the injury. Splintering can also cause the bone to tear soft tissue and blood vessels surrounding the break.
